History of Lao Bar Association
1989
Lao Bar Association was established according to
Decree No 24/ປສວ, dated 30 March 1989.
1990
The Minister of Justice issued Order No.
134/MOJ, dated May 30, 1990, to appoint four lawyers as the first group of
lawyers, namely:
1991
The Minister of Justice issued Order No.
166/MOJ, dated July 22, 1991, to appoint 21 other lawyers as second group
lawyers.
On August 9, 1991, the General meeting of
Lawyers opened and voted to elect the firth Executive Committee to manage the
works of the Bar Association, which at that time was named the Khampheng Nakhon
Vientiane Lawyers.

1992
The Minister of Justice issued Order No. 74/MOJ,
dated July 4, 1992, to suspend temporally the activity of the Khampheng Nakhon
Vientiane Lawyers to reorganize its organization.
1996
The Prime Minister issued Decree No. 64/PM,
dated February 21, 1996, on the organization and activities of the Bar
Association of the Lao PDR, changing its name from Khampheng Nakhon Vientiane Lawyers
to the Lao PDR Bar Association.
On September 30, 1996, the General meeting of
Lawyers opened and voted to elect the second Executive Committee and Inspection
Committee of the Lao PDR Bar Association, which the Decree No 64/PM set the
term of the Executive Committee for 3 years.
The second Executive Committee includes 5 members, namely:

1997
The Minister of Justice
issued a Decision to appoint six more lawyers.
2002
On June 14, 2002, the General meeting of Lawyers
opened and voted to elect the third Executive Committee and Inspection
Committee of the Lao PDR Bar Association.

On March 27, 2006, the General meeting of
Lawyers opened and voted to elect the fourth Executive Committee and Inspection
Committee of the Lao PDR Bar Association.

On January 6, 2010, the General meeting of
Lawyers opened and voted to elect the fifth Executive Committee and Inspection
Committee of the Lao PDR Bar Association.

On December 21, 2011, the Law on Lawyers No. 010/SPO,
dated December 21, 2011, was officially approved and promulgated. The law on Lawyers
has set the term of the executive committee for 3 years.
2013
On March 27, 2013, the General meeting of
Lawyers opened and voted to elect the sixth Executive Committee and Inspection
Committee of the Lao PDR Bar Association.

On December 16, 2015, the General meeting of
Lawyers opened and voted to elect the seventh Executive Committee and
Inspection Committee of the Lao PDR Bar Association.

On November 09, 2016, the amended Law on Lawyers No. 06/NA, dated November 09, 2016, was officially approved and promulgated. The Law on Lawyers has set the term of the executive board for 5 years.
2020
On December 16, 2020, the General meeting of
Lawyers opened and voted to elect the eighth Executive Committee and Inspection
Committee of the Lao PDR Bar Association.

2022
Due to the death of the
President of the Bar Association, Mr. Khamsay Soulinethong, on January 20, 2023, the Bar Association held a
meeting to elect one executive board member to replace him. As a result of the
election, Mr. Chalo Yeewu was elected to the executive committee and appointed
Mr. Voratsami Suliphaphan as the president of the Lao Bar Association,
appointed Mr. Nivan Somsangdy as the vice president, and appointed Mr. Bounyasith
Daopasith as the standing committee.
